A salad with a little history

On Mother’s Day we had a feast of grilled ribeyes, grilled shrimp and grilled veggies. Noelia made a Melba salad which was a big hit. Here is the recipe in her words. With a salad measurements are unnecessary. If you Google “Melba Salad” there are recipes for the dressing.

It was a beautiful day this Monday morning. Enjoy these days because, before long, heat will be here. Perfect days to sit outside. The month of August is the perfect time to be inside. Oh, well, when you are as “retired” as I am, the weather doesn’t matter too much.

Homecoming RSVP deadline set for May 22

The Rockdale Homecoming Association is planning the annual Homecoming for Sunday, June 12, at the Patterson Center. Come early to visit with friends and stay late to take in the program and eat lunch. RSVP is required for lunch.

Voters pick Boren, Lillard, Olivares, Walker

While the official city voting results will not be ready until after press time this week, The Reporter feels comfortable with declaring the winners of the contested races based on the unofficial results provided by the City of Rockdale on Saturday night.

JOCKEYING INTO POSITION—President of Vision Historic Preservation Foundation Collier Perry and wife Peggy really got into the spirit of the Jazz and Derby Party on Saturday by dressing as jockeys.

ELVIS SIGHTING

ELVIS SIGHTING—Elvis was spotted on Thursday at Rockdale Estates & Rehabilitation and the crowd was very excited. Blue Suede Tunes’ Lynn and Cat performed a variety of Elvis tunes as well as other artists and they didn’t do any lip-syncing, it was live.

Waterpark opens

The city’s splash pad at Sumuel Park opened on Saturday and these two kids were having a great time on what turned out to be a very hot day.
