In the U.S., about 4.2 million adults over the age of 40 are either legally blind or suffer from impaired vision. Age-related eye disorders such as macular degeneration, cataract, diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma are the leading causes of blindness and poor vision among Americans.

Railroad Museum sets dates for Jr. Engineers The Milam County Railroad Museum is setting aside four Saturday mornings for Junior Engineers. Beginning July 10, the museum will be open from 10 a.m. to noon for Junior Engineers ages 9 – 17 to enjoy sessions in model railroad building.

Trailer fire

Rockdale Volunteer Department firefighters were called to the Shady Grove RV Park on Sunday and found a travel trailer already almost consumed in flames. Fire Chief Herbie Vaughan said the volunteers spent about an hour and a half extinguishing the blaze that started a little after 4 p.m.

Police make felony arrests over past week

A 31-year-old Leander woman was arrested June 22 at 6:52 p.m. by Sgt. Michael Hubnik on a Rockdale warrant for theft less than $2,500 with two or more previous convictions. A Rockdale man, 39, was arrested Friday at 9:10 p.m.

Post Oak Savannah OKs water grants

The Post Oak Savannah Groundwater Conservation District Board of Directors has approved $1,002,066 in annual water conservation grant funding for six area water suppliers. Thorndale got $315,000 to replace water meters. Clay Water Supply Corp.

New bridge open

The Texas Department of Transportation has finished work on the new bridge at FM 908 crossing over Brushy Creek northwest of Rockdale. The department has been working on the bridge site since last winter. The work involved tearing down the old bridge and clearing the site.

Milam County grand jury returns indictments in June

The following 70 cases were presented to the grand jury and indicted as true bills with one “no bill” on June 22, 2021:. • Sahira Siddiq Kayani, 33, Rockdale, possession of controlled substance 4-400 grams.
