Rockdale Athletics to pick up tree limbs Saturday

  Rockdale Athletics is planning to lend a hand to community members that have limbs in their yard due to the snow storm. Saturday morning from 9-12 we will be driving around and helping to get fallen limbs out to the road so the city can pick them up.

Testing reveals more cases in the county

On Tuesday there were 66 individuals tested in Thorndale, with 25 positive results. Since Sept 1, 2,465 individuals have been tested with 684 positive results making a positivity rate of 28 percent.  There are no new COVID-19  numbers.

Icy conditions delay start of school

Rockdale ISD will have a 2 hour delay this morning due to potential ice on roads and bridges in the the early morning.  Buses will run 2 hours later than normal.

City offices opening at noon due to weather

  Due to freezing weather conditions, city offices will delay opening until noon today. If you need immediate assistance, contact the Police Department at 512-446-3436.

Snow, icy weather suspends COVID-19 testing

There will be no COVID-19 testing today due to the snow and ice. Testing is set to resume Tuesday at the Thorndale VFD.  The county will, however, proceed with the COVID-19 vaccinations in Rockdale today from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. as a lot of people on the list live in Rockdale.

Another death from COVID-19 reported

"We are in the process of having the state assist with contact tracing so that we may dedicate more of the Health Department to our vaccination program. Therefore, we do not have any new active cases to report. However, I am sad to report one additional death, which brings our toll to 15.

One Stop closed due to COVID

The One Stop Center in Rockdale is closed temporarily due to COVID-19, according to Precinct 3 Justice of the Peace Andy Isaccs. The center at 313 N. Main should reopen January 19, he added.

Vaccinations proceeding; must be in groups 1A or 1B and have appointment

On Wednesday the Milam County Health Department vaccinated 20 individuals in Cameron. These were individuals from Group 1A and Group 1B who had signed up to be vaccinated. The Health Department will vaccinate again Friday in Cameron. This is for those who have already made an appointment.

Testing continues in the county

There were 56 people tested in Milano with 24 positive results Wednesday. Our  testing program has tested 2,287 Milam County residents with 616 positive results for a 27% positivity rate. The plan now is to continue testing until March.     We did have one person hospitalized.

County gets surprise gift of food boxes Drayton McLane has donated 300 boxes of food to be distributed by Milam County pastors. The boxes of nonperishable food arrived in Cameron at Bea’s Kitchen earlier this week.
