COVID-19 testing continues in county

 Thursday 26 individuals were tested in Cameron, with 7 positive results. Since Sept. 1,  there have been 2,533 individuals tested with 703 positive results for a  28% positivity rate. Today's testing is in Buckholts at the Buckholts VFD from 8: a.m. to noon.

Call for tree limb pickup before Jan. 22

Rockdale residents may have storm debris removed at no charge through January 22. Once limbs have been placed at the curb, contact City Hall at 512-446-2511 to schedule a pick up.

COVID-19 takes three more lives

Three more Milam County residents have died from COVID-19, County Judge Steve Young reported Tuesday. "This brings the death toll to 18 in Milam County, since our first infection back in March 2020.

Work on Brushy Creek bridge set to start Friday

The construction for the replacement of the bridge at Brushy Creek on FM 908 will begin Friday. Drivers can expect delays, and through traffic will be detoured along FM 486 and FM 487. The $1.8 million project is expected to be complete in May.

One Stop closed due to COVID

The One Stop Center in Rockdale is closed temporarily due to COVID-19, according to Precinct 3 Justice of the Peace Andy Isaacs. The center at 313 N. Main should reopen Jan. 19, he added.

Scholarships are up for grabs in state contest

Applications are now available for the 2021 Don’t Mess With Texas Scholarship Contest. This contest recognizes Texas high school seniors who are taking an active role in litter prevention in their school or community.

It was a really big snow

Snow fell and fell, and then fell some more Sunday as a predicted polar arctic blast stretched deep into Texas. The amount of snow that fell throughout the day Sunday depended on where one was.

City nixes vet center in residential area

The Rockdale City Council rejected Larry Bevin’s request for a zoning change for a proposed veterans’ center in a neighborhood of single-family homes at Monday night’s meeting in City Hall. The bid failed on its first reading before the council.

Rockdale graduate earns big fellowship

Juan Estrada always knew his life was meant to be lived beyond the boundaries of Rockdale where he grew up and attended high school. His first big jump from Rockdale was for undergraduate school in San Antonio at the University of Texas campus there. Then he made a bigger jump to New York City.

Weekend clinic vaccinates 226 Milam County residents

On Saturday at a temporary clinic in Rockdale 15 volunteers came together to vaccinate 226 Milam County residents for the COVID-19 virus. Ten nurses and others came out on a Saturday at the former Rockdale Clinic to receive the vaccinations.
