MILAM BURN BAN LIFTED

The Milam County outdoor burn ban was lifted at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, according to County Judge Steve Young.  The burn ban lifting applies only to rural areas of the county. Municipalities in the county have their own, permanant, outdoor burn bans.

Garage sales all over city this weekend

It’s that weekend again. Rockdale turns into a giant flea market on Labor Day weekend and that’s the case Thursday through Sunday. The annual event is sponsored by the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce.

Labor Day closings announced

Monday is Labor Day and all South Milam County schools will have a vacation day. • Rockdale, Milano, Thorndale and Thorndale St. Paul’s and Gause will be out. • There will be regularly-scheduled garbage pickup in Rockdale on Monday and throughout next week. • Rockdale City Hall will be closed.

Offer to buy Old City Hall

A Rockdale couple has submitted a $100,000 cash bid to purchase the 125-year-old former Rockdale City Hall with an eye toward beginning a $4-million fund-raising effort to restore the historic structure to its Victorian-Era glory.

Up-and-down COVID count continues

The up-and-down metric that is the Milam County COVID-19 count ticked up again during the past week, but the week saw the much anticipated beginning of “quick testing” with 24 persons tested Tuesday at the Thorndale VFD Fire Station. Rockdale’s testing won’t be until Monday, Sept.

NEW POSGCD BOARD MEMBER

Rockdale resident Ward Roddam (R) was sworn in last week as the newest member of the Post Oak Savannah Groundwater Conservation District (POSGCD). Doing the honors was board president Sid Youngblood. Roddam was appointed to the board by the Milam County Commissioners Court.

Thorndale ISD going to 4-days-a week

THORNDALE—After starting the 2020-2021 school term with “in-person” students going to class only two days per week, the Thorndale ISD will change to a four-day-per week format when students return Tuesday from the Labor Day holiday.
