Paper due out early before Thanksgiving

Next week’s Reporter will be published on Tuesday, instead of the normal Wednesday, due to the Thanksgiving holiday in order for advertisers to get their Thanksgiving specials to readers before the big turkey day. Deadline for advertising and news copy will be 12-noon Friday.

Deadline to turn in the traditional hand-written Santa letters to The Reporter is Friday, Dec. 6. Letters need to contain both the first and last names of the child. They can be dropped off at the office, 221 E. Cameron.

Actually it’s been fall for two months but, as usual, leaves in the Rockdale area wait until late November-early December to blaze in their full glory. Those that are left, that is. Winds of up to 50 miles per hour claimed lots of leaves a couple of weeks ago. But not all.

Rockdale’s annual interdenominational Community Thanksgiving Service will get a new date in 2019. The traditional service, sponsored by the Rockdale Ministerial Alliance, is set for 6 p.m. Sunday at Meadowbrook Baptist Church.

Nominations for persons to be served by 2019 Christmas Roundup are now being accepted. Roundup, Rockdale’s annual program of Christmas cheer for the less fortunate, is also accepting donations from the public. During the past week the Cameron Car Club donated $150 to the effort.

Wine tour, lights festival to pop corks Saturday

It’s going to be a “grape day” Saturday in Rockdale. The Rockdale Chamber of Commerce’s first Whistle Stop Wine Tour will provide a day and evening of sipping, singing, shopping and sights.

Prospective buyers are dwarfed by the amount of items in what has been legally ruled a “junkyard” in the 1300 block of East Cameron Avenue (US 79) last Wednesday prior to the start of a massive auction.

One hurt in icy roadway accidents

One person was hurt early Friday morning as part of a series of accidents on ice-slick Brushy Creek drainage bridges on US 79 just east of Thorndale. According to the DPS, a vehicle drive by John Brooks, 42, of Rockdale flipped over and sustained extensive damage.
