Financially-strapped Milam County will get a $540,000 windfall after the largest cash seizure by law enforcement in county history—more than $830,000—closed with a plea bargain last week.

Juvenile convicted of indecency with child

CAMERON—A juvenile whose place of address was listed only as “Milam County” was convicted of indecency with a child after a four-day jury trial last week . Prosecutor Bill Torrey said the jury returned a verdict of “true” to the charge of indecency with a child by sexual contact.

‘Domestic’ calls dominate week for local police

POLICE REPORT Calls to household and family situations dominated a busy week for Rockdale police, according to Lt. Stephen Goodrich. Police made two felony arrests during the past seven days.

Cameron police make arrest after search

SHERIFF’S REPORT Cameron Police executed a narcotics-related search warrant just before 6 a.m. Saturday at a home in the 1700 block of West Fourth in that city. The raid came on the heels of a narcotics trafficking investigation led by Sgt. Kris Stringer.

Two die Tuesday in Milano wreck

Two persons died at sunrise Tuesday in a US 79 crash near Milano, bringing the total of Rock-dale-area highway fatalities in the last two months to fi ve. According to the DPS, an eastbound Chevrolet Cruze crossed the center strip 1.

Judge: County tax revenue down $1.7M

CAMERON—Milam County has its certification of 2018 preliminary values and it’s not good news, according to County Judge Dave Barkemeyer. Barkemeyer said, even at the same 70-cent county tax rate, revenues look to be down about $1.7 million.

First Friday, film to honor music week

QUICK LOOK National Music Week is Sunday through May 13 and Rockdale’s Matinee Musical Club has a couple of events for the public this weekend, including a free movie at the historic Kay Theatre. The music club is sponsoring a showing of the classic “Mary Poppins” at 2 p.m. Sunday.
