Voters in the City of Rockdale and Rockdale ISD will decide contested races Saturday while for the second time in a year’s time span, Thorn-dale ISD residents have the fate of a multi-million dollar bond issue in their hands.

Fatal wreck in Milano on Monday

A 36-year-old Needham, Alabama, man became the Rockdale area’s third highway fatality in just under two months before dawn on Monday. According to the Department of Public Safety, Douglas Brooks was pronounced dead at the scene, US 79 in front of Milano Cefco, after the 3:30 a.m. accident.

Volunteers more than ‘O-Kay’

It sat vacant much longer than it was used. But in 2004 a group of volunteers and supporters teamed up to begin the task of turning Rockdale’s Kay Theatre into a showpiece. They were honored Sunday with a ceremony and plaque unveilings that turned back the clock 70 years.

CAMERON—Milam County’s former treasurer, who resigned last September after a sheriff’s department investigation into a situation involving a fund in her office, received a fi ve-year deferred adjudication probation sentence Tuesday in 20th District Court.
