Kornegay
Ura Joy Shaw Kornegay, 94, of Gause went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Nov. 13, 2025, at home surrounded by her family.
A celebration of life will be held at 3 p. m. Saturday, Nov. 29, at Wellspring Community Church on Highway 79, in Gause.
The family will receive visitors an hour prior to service at the church.
Ura Joy Shaw Kornegay was born on April 13, 1931, in Milam County to James and Norris (Story) Shaw and was raised in Gause.
She attended Gause School and graduated from Hearne High School.
Her family owned the Central Telephone System in Gause and she and her sister, Elsa Rae, worked as telephone operators during high school.
Willard Kornegay and Joy Shaw were married on Oct. 23, 1948. Her life revolved around being a mother and homemaker for her family.
She enjoyed sewing and crochet work, teaching her girls these crafts.
Joy and Willard enjoyed camping with friends. They enjoyed playing dominoes for hours both at home and on camping trips with friends.
Willard, Joy and their children received the Lord at a small church at Hanover. They continued their Christian service in Gause Full Gospel Church (now Wellspring Community Church) for many years, joining the church where Willard’s parents had raised their family.
Joy was preceded in death by her hurband, Willard; her parents, James and Norris (Story) Shaw; her sister, Elsa Rae Shaw Crowder; brother Billy Gene Shaw; daughters Mary Lou Kornegay Hughes and Janice Kornegay Hall; and son-inlaw Wayne Hughes.
She is survived by brother Jim Shaw and wife Jewell of College Station, daughter Jo Ann Pilkey of Gause, son David Kornegay and wife Tonya of Salado, son-in-law Dennis Hall of Corinth.
Also, grandchildren Kenneth Pilkey and wife Kerith, Jonathan Hughes and wife Stacy, Jeff Hughes, Jordan Hughes and wife Zene, Lauren Hall Barrios and husband Troy, Alex Hall, Candace Kornegay Coutinho and husband Rohan, Jada Kornegay, Taryn Kornegay; as well as 17 great-grandchildren.
