Todd, Pesl win top District 27-2A honors

At the end of last week, district picks for 27-2A were announced. For the Lady Bulldogs, senior Ashley Pesl was named the district’s defensive most valuable player and sophomore Abby Dickerson was awarded sixth man of the year.

RHS Tennis rained out Due to rain on Thursday, the Rockdale High School tennis team ended up not playing their tournament in Navasota. RHS netters return to the courts on Thursday, March 11, in Cameron. MHS, THS start track Milano started their track season on Wednesday in Bremond after press time.

District play is under way for Lady Eagles

Milano’s Lady Eagle softball team finally made their 2021 season debut on Monday evening when they went head-to-head with neighbor Rockdale last Monday.

Valdez receives TSWA all-state mention

Last week, the Texas Sportswriters Association included Rockdale’s Cam’Ron Valdez on their list of running backs, putting him as an honorable mention. Valdez, who broke Rockdale’s record for total rushing yards this season, had 1,056 rushing yards this year alone with 17 touchdowns.

RHS golf heads to Wimberley

Both Rockdale golf teams head to Wimberley this upcoming week with the Lady Tigers heading out west Monday and the Tigers teeing off on Tuesday. The tournament takes place at the Quicksand Golf Course. RHS golf also hit the green earlier this week in Hutto after press time.

Rockdale tennis returns Thursday

Due to the winter weather last week, the Rockdale tennis tourney was canceled. Teams get back to the court on Thursday in Navasota. As of press time, RHS doesn’t have any tournaments scheduled this upcoming week and play again on Friday, March 12, in Cameron.

THE FABULOUS BAKER GIRL

Thorndale High School junior Emilee Baker hadn’t always planned on being a Division I softball player before she verbally committed to Texas State University earlier this school year. Before moving to Texas during fifth grade, she was an aspiring gymnast in her home state of Arkansas.

It was a game of runs when Thorndale took on Schulenburg Monday evening at the Brenham High School Gymnasium. In the first quarter, the Shorthorns led 11-2. At halftime, the Bulldogs led 25-24.
