SPORTS BRIEFS In their season debut, the Tiger junior varsity football team lost 16-0 at Giddings High School last Thursday. The JV Buffs took the lead early in the game when they scored on an eight-yard touchdown run. Giddings made a two-point conversion was successful following the score.

Thorndale’s 2019 season opened with an explosive 64-6 win over Class 3A Florence on Friday night. The Bulldogs’s Slot-T offense powered through the Florence defensive line in the first half with four touchdowns in the first quarter and another in the second.

Help wanted for RISD 2019 sporting events Rockdale Independent School District is looking for ticket sellers and bleacher monitors for varsity, subvarsity and junior high home football games. Pay is $45 per varsity competition and $20 for subvarsity and junior high games.

Lady Tigers crowned tournament champs

Rockdale’s Lady Tigers dropped just one game in 10 to take home the Rock-dale High School Volleyball Tournament Championship. Rockdale last won the tournament in 2014. The Lady Tigers came into the tournament seeded first and are in the middle of a seven-game winning streak.

Dove season begins Sunday

Sunday, Sept. 1 marks the beginning of dove season for Milam County hunters. The Regular Season will begin in the Central zone of Texas, which is where Milam County is located, this Sunday and will come to a pause Thursday, Nov. 3., before continuing on Saturday, Dec. 20, until Tuesday, Jan.
