Today (Thursday) the new Dollar Tree will be open at 9 a.m. Workers have been getting ready for weeks. This photo was taken last Thursday of employees unloading a truck full of goods to stock the store. The store is located next to Walmart on West US 79.

Early voting off to a good start

Early voting for the 2024 election started Monday and Milam County is off to a great start with over 1,500 people voting the first day. Early voting goes through Friday, November 1.

Rainwater harvesting class at POSGCD

Post Oak Savannah Groundwater Conservation District (POSGCD) announces a free Rainwater Harvesting 101 class presented by Texas A&M AgriLife Extension on Sat., Nov. 9, from 9 to 11 a.m. The class will cover how to capture and utilize rainwater, offering tips on system setup and water conservation.

The 2024 Rockdale Fair & Rodeo was another huge success and the Fair Association promises the 2025 Fair will be even bigger and better. Attendees enjoyed near perfect weather for the youth auction, cookoff, food and fun. More Fair photos on page 8A.

City receives prestigious scenic city certification

The City of Rockdale was presented with Scenic City Certification on Thursday, October 10th in Houston, at an event held in conjunction with the Texas Municipal League’s Annual Conference.

The Rockdale High School Big Blue Band competed at the UIL Regional Competition in Giddings on Saturday and received a Division 2 (Excellent) rating. “We couldn’t be more proud of the student’s work creating such an incredible show,” said Director of Bands Andrew Quinn.
