For you who live outside of Gause, you may not have heard that Alfred Coats passed away. Our prayers are with Wanda Sue and the family. He was one of the pillars of our community and will be missed. Please keep the family in your prayers as they go through this time.

Grateful for rain, not bolt of lightning

We have gotten so much rain! I am truly grateful for every drop that falls. We prayed for this rain and now we need to be thankful. I am not thankful for the lightning strike that came at 3:45 a.m. My gate controls were fried.

ORGANIZATIONS

The Rockdale Homecoming Association annual citywide homecoming will be Sunday, June 11, at the Patterson Civic Center. Rockdale High School Class of 1973 will be the honored class of 50 years. The Honored Business for 2023 is McVoy Grocery & Feed Store.

REUNIONS

The Appelt Family will be celebrating its 59th reunion on Sunday, June 4, at Appelt’s Hill Hall in Hallettsville. Registration will begin at 10 a.m. and lunch of stew, sausage and assorted side dishes will be served at noon. Canned and bottled cold drinks will also be provided.

Friday Coffee

The Matinee Musical Club hosted the library coffee on Friday morning and put out quiet a spread of food (above) for attendees to enjoy. Below, Leah Thomason entertained the crowd with “Danse de la Chevre” by Arthur Honegger.

CHURCH NEWS

Cowboy Church VBS to be held June 6-9 Milam County Cowboy Church will hold Vacation Bible School June 6-9 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. The theme will be “The Armor of God.” Bible school is free and includes dinner each night and a T-shirt. Register by May 21 at milamcountycowboychurch. org.

Education Foundation hands out $13,000

Rockdale ISD Education Foundation put its money where its mouth was on Thursday by handing out $13,000 in grants to RISD educators.

Fatality on US 77

Texas DPS responded to a report of a major crash near Rockdale on US 77 at 5:30 p.m. May 4. A 2019 Dodge Ram pickup, operated by a 63-yearold female from Ennis, was traveling northbound on US 77 approaching the intersection of FM 908.
