Judge, commissioners take office

County officials elected in the Nov. 8, 2022, general election took office Sunday during the traditional New Year’s Day swearing-in ceremony at the county courthouse in Cameron. A crowd of supporters, family and friends filled the district courtroom for the 9 a.m. event.

Rockdale schools started the spring semester yesterday (Wednesday). Milano and Thorndale schools have another week off and will start on Jan. 10.

ORGANIZATIONS

Heavenly Treasures re-opens after holidays Heavenly Treasures re-opened for shopping on Tuesday with their regular hours of Tuesday through Friday, 9 a.m. to noon. Keto support group meets Thursdays at 7 A keto support group meets at the First Baptist Church’s south entrance every Thursday at 7 p.m.

Happy New Year! I have ver y little news to report, which can be a blessing. We have received much needed rain, I am sure the trees are happy. Students return to school Jan. 10. The break has been a great time to visit family and get small projects done.

MILAM COUNTY JAIL LOG

Jail log lists all people charged with offenses through the county jail in Cameron. Charges may change during the process. Persons are presumed innocent until convicted in a court of law.   • James Williams, 62, Cameron, unauthorized use of motor vehicle, released to district commitment.

One felony arrest by Rockdale Police in slow holiday week

Rockdale Police Officers made one felony arrest during the past week.   • Thomas Anthony McElroy, 27, Rockdale, was arrested on Tuesday by Ofc. Krejci on an outstanding Milam County warrant for violation of probation.

Rockdale VFD Responded to: • 1307 Alcoa Avenue for a carbon monoxide alarm on Thursday.   • 1102 Fairview for a barn on fire on Thursday. Milano VFD Responded to: • South TX 36 underpass for traffic control for an 18-wheeler stuck under the bridge on Thursday.
