4-H’ers compete in plant ID at Fort Worth show

Congratulations to our 4-H Plant ID members who competed at Fort Worth Stock Show on Jan. 22. Junior Team—Second-place team Aaron Ponnaiya (third high individual), Noah Bradley and Luke Holcombe.

Senior Center seeking volunteers, donations The Rockdale Senior Center is in need of volunteers on Mondays to deliver Meals on Wheels twice per month. They are also asking for donations for their Angel Tree and seeking people to adopt a senior or buy items from their wish list.

Two good cold weather recipes

Here’s an easy casserole that’s good for cold weather days. Two things I would do differently than this recipe is to use a bag of baby spinach and add it when the meat is almost done before adding the pasta sauce. And I’d sauté the mushrooms with the onions and sausage.

By the time you read this, I hope the sun is shining and the weather is a lot warmer. We are having trouble making the dogs go out; can’t blame them. I call the school checking to see if there was any news and was told there was none.

Focus on what matters

I visited someone in the hospital last week. They are dying. I know I have shared with you in the past that death stinks and nothing has changed for me on this topic. I just don’t have a place to file it.

RCS food pantry

Rockdale Christian Services operates a food pantry at 224 West Cameron Avenue, open the second and fourth Thursday and Friday of the each month from 10 a.m. to noon.

Heavenly Treasures

Rockdale Christian Services “Heavenly Treasures” thrift store, 233 North Main, serves the needy with gently used clothing and household items at prices from 25 cents to $5. Hours are 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday through Friday.

St. Paul to hold BBQ dinner February 13

St. Paul Lutheran Church and School in Thorndale will hold its annual BBQ brisket dinner and live auction fundraiser Sunday, Feb. 13, at the Thorndale Fireman’s Hall on North FM 486. The meal will be served from 11 a.m to 1 p.m. with dine-in plates available at the door for $12.
