Expert not forecasting grid problems like those in winter

The energy conservation alert from the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) last month has caused concern that outages and rolling blackouts will wreak havoc like they did in February when an ice storm crippled the state, but a Texas A&M expert doesn't expect any major issues this summer.

Grand jury indicts man for murder

Israel Ballester II was indicted for murder Tuesday by a Milam County grand jury in Cameron. The grand jury found enough evidence to have him tried on a first-degree felony, murder charge and two counts of second-degree felony, aggravated assault with deadly weapon.

RISD board names new principal

Rockdale Independent School District has hired Cheyenne Miller as the new principal of Rockdale Intermediate School. Rockdale ISD trustees named Miller at the June 21 board meeting. Miller is currently the assistant principal of Rockdale Intermediate.

The Rockdale City Council made up for an oversight Monday night by giving Municipal Judge Jerry Waggoner a positive evaluation during an executive session in City Hall.

RISD approves budget for coming school year

The Rockdale Independent School District school board approved the budget for fiscal 2021-22 Monday night in a meeting in the conference center on the high school campus. The budget includes $16,345,308 in the general fund, $1,143,237 in food services and $2,480,470 in debt service.

Longtime pastor, teacher says he is stepping down

Saul’s journey to conversion came on the road to Damascus; Dennis Brooks’ came while he was asleep. Brooks was brought up in the church, but as an adult he drifted away. “I was one of those people who thought he was heaven,” Brooks said.
