Board actions at Monday meeting

Rockdale ISD board of directors held its regular meeting on Monday night and addressed key updates for the 2025-2026 school year. HR Director Christy Betchan and Maintenance Team member Kenny Svrcek were honored at this year’s first recipients of the district’s R.O.A. R. award.

The annual Minerva Community Center meeting will be held on Monday, Sept. 8, at 6:30 p.m. All Minerva community members are encouraged to attend. During the meeting both new and old business will be reviewed as well as electing a new trustee.

School year off and running

The school year is off and running! New kids, new schedules, new friends. New bus stops. Please be observant and watch for students entering and exiting buses. TEXAS HEAT— I often wonder, this time of year, if the heat will ever let up. August and September can be rough.

Shrimp salad three ways

Shrimp is one of my favorite foods and I like it cooked all kinds of ways. During these dog days of summer, shrimp salad is always a favorite. This first one is a fairly classic American shrimp salad.

Rockdale PD reports two traffic accidents during past week

Accidents • Ofc. Jacobs responded to Milam at Main Street for a two-vehicle accident on Aug. 14 at 6:45 a.m. • Sgt. Strouth responded to 209 East Ferguson for a Ryder rental truck which stuck a pole on Aug. 16 at 2:55 p.m.
