Ortiz new assistant band director at RJH

Rockdale ISD announced the hiring of Eliezer Ortiz as the new Assistant Band Director at Rockdale Junior High School for the 2025– 2026 school year. Ortiz is a recent graduate of Texas A&M University– Central Texas, where he earned a Bachelor of Music with a minor in Education.

Rockdale Community Market moved back to Wolf Park last weekend, and this weekend is hosting a fall River Basin Master Gardeners from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

St. Monica’s festival set for Aug. 17th

St. Monica's Catholic Church in Cameron will hold its Homecoming Festival on Sunday, August 17 starting at 10 a.m. Barbecue beef and sausage plates are $15 and there will also be a drive through for to go-plates. A polka mass begins at 10 a.m. with the Jodie Mikula Orchestra.

RHS Class of 1970 reunion planned

The Rockdale High School Class of 1970 will hold its 55th class reunion Sept. 19 and 20. Classmates should receive in the mail soon a detailed letter covering the two-day event with return information needed.

Free organic gardening on August 20th

Little River Basin Master Gardeners, celebrating 20 years in Milam County, invite the public to a program on organic gardening in Central Texas. This free program will be held Wednesday, August 20, at 10 am., at the Milano Civic Center, 120 West Ave. E.

The MARC Center entered into a new relationship with Abiding Choice, Inc. and on Friday held a ribbon cutting and pizza party for the local MARC consumers as well as consumers from Belton with nearly 100 people attending.
YARD OF THE MONTH— Virginia Ruelas, 313 Hamilton Avenue, has been chosen as Rockdale Earth Day's Yard of the Month for August. Ruelas has created a honeybee and butterfly haven with a mixture of native plans which provide color as well as nourishment for insects. She will receive a gift certificate to Giddings Nursery and Garden Center.
