Early voting continues for March 3rd primaries

Early voting began Tuesday for the March 3 Republican and Democratic Primaries—with 316 casting early ballots, 272 in the GOP races, 44 for Democrats—‚and continues this week at four locations.

Late filings result in city, RISD races

Last day filings Friday produced contested races for both the Rockdale City Council and Rockdale ISD School Board May 2. And there’s a twist. An incumbent school board member passed up filing for re-election in order to seek a city council position being vacated by an incumbent councilman.

Dog park makes debut, more to come

Rockdale has its first-ever dog park and a crowd of several dozen four-footed, and two footed, enthusiasts came out Saturday morning to see the new facility. And it’s only the first phase.

Banner year for RCS food

Rockdale Christian Services had a “banner year” in food distribution in 2019, according to Pam Warren, RCS Chair. Warren said RCS distributed just over 50 tons of food in the year just past.

Rockdale police made two arrests early Saturday morning after a local woman said her camper was being towed away. Gilbert Ray Lerma, 49, and Garrett Ethan Blake Bayne, both of Thrall, were charged with theft ($2,500 to $30,000).

CHILI SUPPER

—The Knights of Columbus Council 7014 held its annual chili supper on Monday evening to honor South Milam County first responders. First responders representing Rockdale, Milano and Gause and their families and friends enjoyed the meal prepared by the KCs.

Boil water notice

All of Rockdale west of Childress remains on a “boil water notice” after this 12-inch water main blew out and sent brown water and rocks out of the ground about 7:30 a.m. Tuesday on US 79 (West Cameron Ave.) in front of Mr. Gatti’s.
