Texas Department of Transportation work on US 79 is progressing according to plans with workers tearing up the old curbs and sidewalks on the north side of the road through downtown Rockdale. Big Creek Construction out of Waco is doing the work that will progress westward through downtown. At some point the rebuilding of the downtown area with new curbs, access points and sidewalks will begin. Despite the bad weather of January and February, the work is on track for a completion date in summer of 2022, according to a TxDOT spokesman.
