Zapata earns honor at Concordia

AUSTIN—Rockdale native Michael Ryan Zapata has been named to the dean’s list at Concordia University. Zapata was named to the list for his academic achievement in the fall semester of 2018. He is the son of Michael and Gloria Zapata of Rock-dale and is a sophomore at Concordia.

iTigers planning summer program

RISD REPORT The Rockdale ISD iTigers program will be ending by the middle of next month. However they will be up and running again soon after for their summer program which begins by the end of May. Rockdale Elementary School iTigers Coordinator Valarie Willingham has more information below.

Tornado twists San Gabriel

A tornado-spawning thunderstorm raced across Milam County Saturday with two confirmed twisters, the most serious making a direct hit on San Gabriel.

Holy week services ahead

Peace Lutheran Church, 303 Meadow Drive, will host the Rockdale Ministerial Alliance-sponsored Holy Week luncheons during the noon hour Monday through Friday, April 15-19.

County show sales total tops $345K

CAMERON—Final sale totals from livestock shows at the March 28-30 2019 Milam County Junior Livestock show were $345,737.75, according to show secretary Sandra Waiser. That includes $278,728.50 from the market show and $67,009.25 from the commercial heifer show. For full results turn to page 3B.

THINK THE CREEK MAY BE OUT?

—Mother Nature fired both barrels at Milam County over the weekend. In addition to tornadoes and hail, rain sent Brushy Creek, the San Gabriel River and tributaries out of their banks beginning Sunday.

‘Unplanned’ subject to speak Saturday

The Rockdale native, whose life is the subject of one of the top 10 highest-grossing movies currently in release in North America, will “come home” Saturday as the speaker for Place of Hope’s annual Hope Night. Abby Brannam Johnson will speak during the 6 p.m. event at the KC Hall.

GETTING READY FOR EARTH DAY

Dave Melton, coordinator for Rockdale’s annual Earth Day, addressed the First Friday get-together at the city library last week. Earth Day activities are going on all month but the big day is April 22 with a full day of activities planned.
