New football field planned

There’s going to be a new Tiger Field. The most sweeping change to Rockdale’s athletic facilities in 84 years is planned with the confi rmation last week that $5 million in improvements are in the works. And it won’t require a bond issue, according to Rockdale ISD Supt. Dr. Denise Monzingo.

City marketing director starts

Nicole Hirsch’s job is Rockdale. The city’s fi rst-ever marketing director’s fi rst day on the job was Monday and she is already making the rounds, learning the city and people she will assist. “It’s exciting,” she said. “This week I’m meeting many people and I’m ready to help in any way I can.

Voters will judge candidates Tuesday

Chet Garner loves Texas. And Texas loves Chet Garner. After sitting down with him for an hour it’s easy to see why. The host of the popular PBS television series The Daytripper was in Milam County Thursday as featured speaker at the Cameron Chamber of Commerce Banquet.

Prison term returned in sex assault

CAMERON—A 33-year-old Rockdale man received a two-year prison term after entering an “open” plea to a charge of sexual assault of a child. Nathan Charles Arbuckle entered the plea before 20th District Judge John Youngblood.

SAYING ‘THANKS’

—Rockdale Knights of Columbus Council 7014 recently held its annual Law Enforcement Appreciation Night at the KC Hall. The evening featured a chili supper, a welcome by Mike Korenek of the KCs and lots of visiting.

Buckholts school threat nets arrest

An 18-year-old Buckholts resident was arrest Friday in connection with what investigator said was a threat against Buckholts schools. Christopher Keith Walker, was also charged with sexual assault of a child. The investigation resulted from social media exchanges, according to police.

Project Graduation dinner, drawing set for March 18

MILANO NEWS Milano’s Project Graduation will host a chicken dinner on March 18 at the KC Hall in Rockdale. Serving starts at 11 a.m. and plates are $10 each. Meals include ½ chicken, green beans, German noodles, dessert and tea. There will also be a silent auction at the events.
