Acord

John Dalton “J.D.” Acord of Rockdale passed away peacefully on Saturday, Nov. 5, 2022, surrounded by his children and fami ly members.

He was born in Oktaha, Oklahoma, on Oct. 28, 1939, to Dalton Acord and Ethel Jean Jones Acord.

J.D. married Florene Love on June 12, 1960, in Davilla.

He is survived by their two loving children, Rhonda Marlene Beatty and husband Lynn of Bethany, Louisiana, Michael Wade Acord and wife Terry of Hutto.

J.D. is also survived by grandchildren Hannah and husband Josh Creed of Bethany, Louisiana, Luke and wife Stephanie Beatty of Bethany, Louisiana, Ian Acord of Hutto, Adyson Acord of Austin and one great-granddaughter, Bailey Ann Beatty.

J.D. was an excellent provider for his family through management and sales. His career took him to six different states, and he was able to retire early.

He followed his lifelong passions of buying two farms, fishing, raising cattle, and playing with his grandchildren.

When J.D. lived in Festus, Missouri, and was in his late 20s, he raced stock cars— numbered “007.” J.D. also enjoyed riding motorcycles.

J.D. enjoyed traveling, whether by land or sea.

J.D. often enjoyed the Milano Jamboree.

He was a worker bee, kind and loving, and he valued his family most. J.D. will be deeply missed.

J.D. was preceded in death by his loving wife, Florene; his parents, Ethel Akers and Dalton Acord; brother Don Acord; his mother and father-in-law, Carrie and Clyde Love.

Also, his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Bobbye and Jody Runnels; other brothers- in-law and sisters-in-law, Jimmie and Barbara Love, Dennis and Zelma Love, Martin Stevenson, Larry Bales, and nephew, Mitchell Bales.

J.D. is survived by his sister, Melba Jean Hodge and husband Jerry of Durant, Oklahoma, and his brother, Jimmy of Atchley, Oklahoma.

Survivors include brothers- in-law Leon Love and wife Coty of Sharp and Lynn Love of Sharp.

J.D. is also survived by sisters-in-law Nancy Bales of Devine, Dottie Stevenson of Lakeway, Elaine and husband Bob Merritt of Sharp, Susie and husband Bill Dixon of Georgetown, Judi and husband Paul Kruse of Rockdale, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale.

A service celebrating J.D.’s life will be on Saturday, Nov. 19, at 11 a.m. at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home, with John D. Stanislaw officiating.

Songs will be sung by J.D.’s nieces, Jeanie Kay Pierce and Valerie Dawn Crabtree, both of Durant, Oklahoma.

A graveside service will follow at Lilac Cemetery.

Honorary pallbearers are Ian Acord, Ken “Bud” Keller, Mitch Dixon and John Rogers.

Serving as pallbearers are Luke Beatty, Josh Creed, Clint Merritt, Brad Merritt, John Stevenson, Ben Dixon, Zac Dixon, and Matt Merritt.
