Boy Arledge, age 86, of Rockdale passed away June 4, 2020, at Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Temple.

Services were held at 11 a.m. Monday June 8, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale with Ray Templeton officiating. Burial followed at I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rockdale.

Visitation was also Monday, from 9 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m.

Boy was born Feb. 22, 1934, to William Henry “Big Daddy” and Nonie Tessie (Stephens) “Big Moma” Templeton at Franklin, Texas, in Robertson County. She was the sixth child of 10 children.

She attended school in Robertson County. Boy loved sports, especially softball and volleyball.

As a teenager, she worked as a waitress for Ma Moody at the Moody’s Restaurant in Franklin. She always described this work as “slinging hash.”

She met Eugene Arledge in Hearne. He was a watermelon farmer and rancher from Rockdale. They married on Nov. 29, 1952.

To this union, they had three children: Terry, Tammy and Timmy Don.

She attended Murray Street Church of Christ in Rockdale. Many times after church she, Wilma Jones and Oleta Yoakum would head to Dairy Queen for lots of gab and cut-up. She would jokingly say they were headed to Tom and Nat’s.

Boy was a homemaker, and she excelled in cooking. She was known for her chocolate pies and sweet tea. As a family, we looked forward to her Thanksgiving and Christmas feasts. Everything she made was from scratch, and she made the best dressing.

She continued her love of sports by playing and coaching softball and volleyball teams named “Boy’s Girls.” She has many trophies to show her successes.

Boy also helped Gene by feeding their livestock in the early years of their marriage.

In the winter months, she, Gene and their beloved chihuahua “Mimi Lynn” traveled many miles through Texas, Arizona and New Mexico buying furs.

She and Gene also hauled cattle.

In the 1990s, she helped her daughter-in-law, Selina, manage Arledge Antiques.

Boy was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Arledge on Oct. 4, 2018; her parents; five brothers, Dick, Glenn, Toxie, Joe and Marvin Templeton; and two sisters, Frances Ferguson and Helen Marshall.

Boy is survived by her three children, Terry Arledge and wife Selina, Tammy Leopold and husband Dusty and Tim Arledge and wife Dana, all of Rockdale; sisters, Barbara Threadgill and husband Jack of Rockdale and Jeanetta Smith of Hearne; seven grandchildren, Troy and Wendy Arledge, Tiffany and Michael Weed, Colt Pounders, Tyler Pounders, Tate Pounders, Taryn Arledge, Tyley Arledge; five great-grandchildren, Tyson Arledge, Tera and Hayden Rasco, Mary Ann Lopez, Kingston Weed and Asher Weed; one greatgreat-grandson, Hudson Rasco; sisters-in-law Rosie Templeton, Joy Templeton, Patsy Templeton and Estelle Praesel; numerous nieces and nephews; her special caregivers, Teresa Mireles, Delores Woolverton, Edith Miller, Julia Molina; and her very special friend, Barbara Nauert.
