Barber

Harold Wesley Barber, loving husband, daddy, granddaddy and pa-pa, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2021, at the age of 86 years and 5 days.

A public memorial service will be held at a later date.

Harold was born in Bremond on Feb. 11, 1935, to Thomas Allen Barber and Frances Viola (Morgan) Barber. He was the sixth child of nine born to his parents.

Harold graduated from Bremond High School in 1953 where he played center for the Bremond Tigers football team. He enjoyed, after he retired, going to watch Bremond play.

In the 70s and 80s, he formed two different country-and-western bands, Family Traditions and Country Beats. They may not have made it to Nashville but Harold enjoyed pickin’ and grinnin’ with his bandmates.

In the summer of 1956, he met a red-headed fireball named Dolores Faye Kindred at a dance in Bremond. After a few months of dating, they married in Reagan on Sept. 29, 1956. They honeymooned in Caldwell at a house his brother owned. To this union three children were born—Linda Michele, Lori Kaye and Clayton Eddie. He was proud of all and loved them more than they’ll ever know and was able to tell them each one before his death.

Harold and Dolores would have celebrated 65 years of marriage in September. They had good and bad times, but Harold constantly told Doe-Doe that he loved her.

Harold enjoyed picking his guitar, visiting with friends and especially his kids, grandkids and great-grandkids. He had all kind of funny stories and made up goofy little songs he sang to them.

Harold began his Alcoa career in May 1969 and moved his family to Rockdale. He worked in the rod room as an Operator B for 28 years retiring in 1997.

Harold is survived by his wife, Dolores “Doe-Doe” of Rockdale; and children, Linda Michele Beery of Rockdale, Lori Kaye Tucker (James) of Hutto and Clayton Eddie Barber (Joanne) of Rockdale.

He was granddaddy to Aaron Wesley Barber (Rachael) of Elgin, Jason Wesley Black (Karen Shepard) of Pflugerville, Asilinn Marie LaRoe Barber (Edwin Gorney) of Knoxville, Tennessee, Drew Edward Krenek of Rockdale and Kaylinn Shea Tucker of Austin. Great-grandchildren are Mikkayla Lynn, Madilyn Elizabeth, Brayden Wesley Barber and Clayton Conkle, all of Elgin. He was a special Pa-Pa to Gypsy and Little Bit.

He is also survived by Thomas Eugene Barber of Caldwell, Royce Barber and Mary Hancock Spitzenberger of Rockdale; sisters-in-law Doris (Doll) Tennis Barber of Mechanicsville, Pennsylvania, and Peggie Kindred McMahon of College Station; and brother-in-law Jerry Lynn Kindred (Nancy) of Kosse; also, nephews and nieces too numerous to mention each one, but they all held a special place in his heart.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents; father and mother-in-law Ed and Florene (Pringle) Kindred; sisters Thelma Adams, Mae Beth Bishop and Joyce Greensage; brothers Herschel Clyde Barber and Aubrey Lee Barber; brothers-in-law James Adams, Roy Lee Bishop, Bruno Greensage, Arthur Spitzenberger, Bernard Kindred, Charles Kindred and Jerry Paul McMahon; sisters-in-law Doris Jean Barber, Alice Barber and Pauline Barber.

A special thank you to the Rockdale Fire and Police Department, Stephen Jones and Bro. John Krause for coming to the house and helping us during this very difficult time. Arrangements by Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home, P.O. Drawer 1417, Rockdale, TX 76567, 512-446-5454.
