Mildred “Mamaw” Loretta Barnett, 91, of Milano, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 16, 2023, at her home in Milano.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale with Pastor Donald Valenta officiating. Burial will follow at Milano Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers are her grandsons Aaron Barnett, Jason Barnett, Cutter Barnett and Great Grandsons, Brandon Weller, Mason Westbrook, Christopher Pizana, Noah Wall, Avery Pizana, James Weller, and Taylor Wall.

Mamaw was born Sept. 30, 1932, to William Greene and Verna Irene (Mauk) Vann in Robertson Mrs. Barnett

County.

On Aug. 12, 1950, she married Joseph Grady Barnett Jr. and was married 33 years until his death on Jan. 3, 1984.

After Junior passed away, she became a Milano ISD employee where she worked as an aide at the Milano Elementary School until her retirement in 1993.

Mamaw was a loving homemaker, a true matriarch who adored her huge family and was a blessing to the Milano community in every way.

Her passions were serving the Lord, quilting, gardening, yardwork, going to Grandkids ball games and last but certainly not least, cooking. Her chocolate, coconut cream and lemon pies were highly sought after and her fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy were second to none. All will miss her yummy dewberry cobbler and chicken and dumplings as well.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Junior; parents, William and Verna Vann; brothers JP Vann, Vernon Vann, Joe Vann, Luther Vann, Willie Vann, Jr., and Howard Vann; sisters Faye Moore, Mozelle Sanders, and Alpha Dooley; and daughter- in-law Elizabeth “Libby” Barnett.

Mamaw is survived by her sons, James Barnett and wife Carol, Billy Barnett and wife Sherry, and Lynn Barnett and wife Wendy; sister Maudie Barnett; grandchildren Christy Manzoni, Tiffany Westbrook, Stacey Wall, Kaysie Pizana, Aaron Barnett, Jason Barnett, Brittany Barnett, Cutter Barnett and Maggie Barnett; great-grandchildren, Katelyn Boyd, Brandon Weller, James Grady Weller, Madison Westbrook, Mason Westbrook, Christopher William Greene Pizana, Avery Pizana, Noah Wall, Heather Wall, Taylor Wall, Harper Barnett, Aniston Barnett, Hudson Grady Barnett, Ella Eve Barnett, and Elijah Barnett; and great-great-grandchildren, Cayden Reid Mitchell, Brayden Michael Boyd, Logan Boyd, Lilli Ann Boyd, Elliot Boyd, Camry Lynn Weller, Paisley Weller, Jackson Weller, Presley Weller and Emerysn Manzoni.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Milano Cemetery Association and Milano Volunteer Fire Department.
