Brown

Bert Brown, born March 6, 1952, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Nov. 18, 2018.

“When you put your cares in God’s Hands, He puts peace in your heart,” wrote Bert in his daily journal.

Bert, an outdoorsman, grew up in Rockdale, Texas helping his father raise cattle and riding his quarter horse.

He graduated from Rock-dale High School lettering in four sports. In football, the

named “Big Bert” a Super Centex football star. He was an All-Central Texas and an All-13AAA choice as a tight end and defensive end for the Rockdale Tigers.

In 1972, Bert married Joan Marie Mantooth of San Antonio. He described Joan as the “love and light of his life.” Together they moved to Huntsville, where he began his career in security.

On Aug. 2, 1973, Joan gave birth to fraternal twins, daughter Tara and son James.

Bert and family moved to San Antonio in 1984 and enjoyed a successful career of 24 years in security. A highlight of his career was planning, coordinating and facilitating the security for the San Antonio Golf Association for the PGA tour in San Antonio from 1990 to 1995.

Bert held numerous roles in the church. He was an ordained elder, teacher and a disciplined student of The Word of God. He was also a preacher of The Word and after preaching one of many sermons, on Aug. 27, 2006, he had the privilege of performing his first baptism at Thousand Oaks Christian Church. Bert was gifted with a rich baritone voice that he used for the Lord in worship teams, solos, and numerous weddings.

He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golfing with his wife, children and grandchildren.

Bert was a member of Sunset Ridge Church of Christ, where he faithfully participated in its work for Christian Assistance Ministry feeding the homeless each week. He felt it an honor to serve the church in any capacity needed.

Bert leaves behind, Joan Marie Brown, his loving wife of 46 years; his children, Tara Lynn Pandolfi and husband Andrew, James E. Brown and wife Jennifer; grandchildren Bailey, Kaleb and Kallie Pandolfi, Jacob and Maxwell Brown.

His parents, Elbert Howard and Rubye Ellen Spence Brown, preceded him in death.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, at Porter Loring Mortuary North.

Service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at Sunset Ridge Chruch of Christ, 95 Brees Blvd., San Antonio, TX 78209, with Pastor John Harp and Pastor Andrew Pandolfi officiating.

Interment will be at Forest Grove Cemetery, 8902 Hwy. 77, Rockdale, TX 76567, at 4 p.m.
