Caffey

Funeral services for Alta Raye Caffey, 96, of Rockdale were held Sunday, Nov. 14, 2021, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale with Kevin Caffey and Pastor Matt Higginbotham officiating. Interment followed at Salty Cemetery.

Mrs. Caffey died Thursday, Nov. 11, at Legacy Nursing & Rehab in Cameron.

She was born Dec. 20, 1924, in the Salty community to Luther and Katherine (Story) Jackson.

On July 3, 1941, she married Charles Cleo “Buck” Caffey in Pasadena (Texas).

She worked several different jobs, starting out as a bookkeeper with Hancock Service Stations in Thorndale, Taylor and Rockdale, clerked at Butts Dry Goods in Thorndale, was a cook at Thorndale I.S.D. and then completed her career as the business manager with Caffey Construction.

Mrs. Caffey lived in Rockdale the past 27 years, having moved from San Marcos.

She was a member of First Baptist Church in Rockdale.

She was an Astros baseball fan and enjoyed reading Christian love stories. Her favorite author was Karen Kingsbury.

Mrs. Caffey loved being involved with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and holiday family gatherings.

She was a collector of nativity scenes with a collection of over 200.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Katherine Jackson; her husband, Buck Caffey on Aug. 14, 2004; their son, Charles Ray Caffey on Aug. 12, 2014; their daughter, Linda Biar on Dec. 21, 2018; six brothers, Van, Conrad, Manora, Hubert, Floyd and Roy Jackson; and a sister, Bernice Moore.

Surviving are a son, Edward Caffey and wife Debbie of San Marcos; a daughter, Debbie Leschber and husband Raymond of Rockdale; a daughter-in-law, Neva Caffey of Bryan; a son-in-law, Jerry Biar of Thorndale; 11 grandchildren, Derek Caffey and wife April, Kevin Caffey and wife Stacie, Rhonda Jordan and husband Craig, Tina Schaefer and husband Scotty, Mark Biar, Christie Gamble and husband Jeff, Diane Caffey, Courtney Burgoon and husband Seth, Wayne Leschber and wife Stacy, Matthew Leschber and wife Jenny, Clint Leschber and wife Nikki; 26 great-grandchildren, Colton Caffey and wife Tiffany, Austin Caffey and wife Amanda, Brandi Caffey, Jackson, Slaton and Vivian Caffey, Tyler Jordan and wife Shelbee, Paxton Jordan and wife Shelby, Riley Schaefer, Ashton Schaefer, Skyler Konarsky and husband Dylan, Ryan Biar, Nathan Biar, Justin Knox, Luke Gamble, Jack Gamble, Jackson Wallace, Kennedy Burgoon, Luke, Landri, Stryker, Caden, Addison, Brynn Raye, Paige, and Wyatt Leschber; and two great-great-grandchildren, Daylee Jordan and Jesse Konarsky.

Pallbearers were her grandsons.
