Cannon

Mr. Cannon

MILANO—Ralph Wayne Cannon, 72, “a gentleman and a gent le man,” passed away peacefully on March 22, 2023, at The Denver Hospice, having lived a full and vibrant life that he, nonetheless, thought was not long enough.

Graveside service and interment will be held at Milano Cemetery in Milano at 11 a.m. April 5.

Ralph was born Aug. 28, 1950, in Rockdale and grew up in nearby Cameron, where he graduated from C.H. Yoe High School in 1968. He attended Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in accounting in 1972 and a Master’s degree in general business in 1974.

He was a CPA and was employed as an accountant by The El Paso Co. in Houston from 1977 to 1983 and by the City of Aurora, Colorado, from 1985 to 2012, when he retired.

Ralph was a passionately liberal Democrat, an animal lover and a man loyal to his friends and family.

He loved spending time with people he cared about whether dining out, attending movies, playing board and other games or in animated conversation.

He was thought of as an unassuming man with a wry sense of humor and a big heart by those who knew him best.

Ralph was an avid collector of Santa Claus, cat and angel figurines and other curios that caught his eye. He delighted in looking for “treasures” wherever they might be found. He also collected a sizable amount of Fiestaware and enjoyed using it often while entertaining friends in his home.

He was preceded in death by his loving parents, F.C. and Connie Cannon, sister Annette and life partner David Burns.

Ralph is survived by a host of very dear cousins and friends.

Following funeral services in Colorado and Texas, he will be laid to rest in the Milano Cemetery in Milano.
