Jerry Caywood died March 28, 2020, in Bastrop.

Private family services will be held.

Mr. Caywood was born Aug. 2, 1947, to Herbert N. “Spud” and Eutha Marie (Jackson) Caywood at their Bell Street home in Rockdale.

He started working at an early age with summer jobs hauling watermelons and hay for Gene Arledge or working at Red Richards’ Exxon station.

Mr. Caywood was a graduate of Rockdale High School, Class of 1965.

After graduation, he worked at Rockdale State Bank as a teller, then in 1969 he started working at Alcoa (Rockdale Works) in the traffic department.

While at Alcoa, he attended night school at Temple Junior College, then took a leave of absence from Alcoa to complete his degree in transportation at the University of Texas.

During this time, Mr. Caywood was involved in the Rockdale Jaycees and volunteered as a Little League coach for over 10 years.

He was transferred to Alcoa’s corporate office in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Mr. Caywood retired from Alcoa in 1993 after achieving the role of president of Penn Way Transportation (subsidiary of Alcoa).

He returned to Rockdale in 1997 to help care for his mother and became actively involved with the Milam County Historical Commission.

Mr. Caywood was a member of Rockdale Masonic Lodge No. 414 AF&AM.

He was preceded in death by his father, “Spud” in December 1988 and his mother, Eutha in August 1997.

Survivors include his wife, Ginger Hill; a stepson and wife Travis and Sammi Hill; his granddaughters, Randi Hill and Caylee Jo Hill of Smithville; and a sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Adrain Bailey of Rockdale.
