Cooksey

Wanda Marie Cooksey, 67, of Rockdale, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, Feb. 27, 2021, surrounded by her loving family.

A Celebration of Life will be livestreamed at 11 a.m. Friday, March 5, on Phillips & Luckey’s Face book page, with Bro. Abel Mosley Sr. officiating.

The family will receive visitors for a public viewing from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Friday at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale.

On Aug. 14, 1953, a precious baby girl was born to Eva Mae and Early D Mosley, named Wanda Marie Mosley, in her grandmother’s home in Gloster, Louisiana. She was given the nickname for “Rooke” by her midwife.

Wanda was always on the move, she took her first steps at eight months and was going non-stop ever since. She attended elementary school in Gloster, LA. She was baptized at an early age and attended Trinity Gardens Church of Christ in Houston.

Shortly after graduating high school, she met and married Albert Cooksey Jr. They welcomed three beautiful children, Albert Moiselle (Nyweli), Desmoin Anthony (Connie) and her precious baby girl, Tyrah Marie (Quincy), who everyone knew was her favorite or at least that’s what Tyrah believes. They raised their kids in Rockdale.

In 1985, Wanda began teaching at the Rockdale Junior High School in the special education department. She would spend the next 35 years caring for and loving not only the students that she had the opportunity to teach but any that would cross her path. Everyone knew “Mrs Cooksey.” She impacted the lives of many children in the community by giving them a certain kind of tough love that only she could deliver.

She retired from Rockdale ISD in May 2018. She loved what she did so much she became a substitute teacher after retirement.

In 1996, she met the love of her life Mr. Andrew “Hank” Robertson. Their love was unconditional and special. No one loved and cared for “baby” like Hank, she was his queen.

Wanda enjoyed spending time with her family. She lit up any room she walked in. She was the life of the party and always stayed on the dance floor until the last song was played.

Wanda’s favorite past time was shopping. She enjoyed cruising and traveling with family and friends.

Her legacy lives on in her three children, Moiselle, Desmoin and Tyrah. She also leaves to cherish her memory her mother Eva, father Early; her 10 grandchildren, Roman, Legaci, Jaelyn, Devon, Katelyn, Keegan, Maxwell, Jonah, Branley, and Desmoin II; one great-grandchild Keaton; a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
