POTTSBORO—Charles “Chuck” Lester Davis, 78, of Pottsboro, passed away peacefully in his home on Thursday, May 20, 2021, with his loving wife Nelda by his side.

Chuck was born Jan. 29, 1943, in Austin, to R.T. and Josie (Windom) Davis.

He married his sweetheart, Nelda Loyce Eilers, on April 22, 1967, at Faith Lutheran Church in Austin. To this union were born two children, the loves of their lives, Curtis and Staci.

As a young married couple, they traveled the entire U.S. and lived in more than 21 states. Chuck graduated from Austin High School in Austin, followed by Austin School of Electronics (Austin) and Blinn College (Brenham).

He was honored to have served his country in the United States National Guard (1964-1970) and continued to be a proud American citizen until his death.

Chuck was a member of Elks Lodge for 52 years and a HAM radio operator for 64 years. He was also a member of the Oklahoma Cable Association; a charter member of both the CATA Organization and the NCTC.

Chuck forged the cable TV industry into more than 500,000 homes across the country including owning and operating 14 cable systems.

In 2009, Chuck was inducted into the Cable TV Pioneer Hall of Fame. He was recognized for his lobby work in Washington, DC, where he fought for small CATV operators and their rights.

In 2015, Chuck and Nelda, of TV Cable of Grayson County, were awarded the Business of the Year.

Chuck served his neighbors faithfully as the assistant fire chief at the Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department for eight years, where he and Nelda lived and raised their family for 28 years.

They also owned American Cleaners in Austin and were co-owners of Tri-Chem in Giddings.

Chuck was an avid hunter and enjoyed all aspects of flight and planes, including owning several small airplanes.

Chuck is lovingly remembered by his wife of 54 years, Nelda Davis; his son, Curtis Davis and daughterin-law Cari (Joshua); his daughter, Staci Holt and son-in-law James (Denver, Colorado); his granddaughters, Kathryn Davis and Elizabeth Holt; his brothers-in-law, Herman Eilers and Raymond Eilers, and Raymond’s wife, Joyce; his sister-in-law, Betty Rhodes and husband John; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, R.T. and Josie Davis, and his brother, Col. Robert S. Davis.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 28, at Lakeway United Methodist Church, 15015 TX-289, Pottsboro.

Serving as pallbearers are Tom Trimble, Billy Eilers, Jym Trimble, Matthew Eilers, Troy Eilers, Tracy Eilers, Tim Eilers and Craig Brooks.

Memorials may be made in lieu of flowers to the American Cancer Society, Dementia Society of America, or your local volunteer fire department.
