A memorial service for Adelfa Ana Galban Davis, 78, of Rockdale, will be held at a later date.

Sh e d i e d Sunday, Nov. 19, 2023, in Temple.

She was born Nov. 5, 1945, in Thorndale to Placido II and Marguerite Galban.

Mr. Galban retired from the Missouri Pacific Railroad and Mrs. Galban was a nurse, working in all the surrounding hospitals and nursing homes in the counties until her retirement.

Adelfa graduated from Thorndale High School in 1964. She continued her education by attending several years at “Our Lady of the Lake” College in San Mrs. Davis Antonio.

She soon moved to San Jose California, becoming very active, working and marching with Caesar Chavez to improve the working and living conditions of the farm workers and migrant laborers.

Aldelfa eventually returned to Texas to pursue her education and graduated from the University of Texas in Austin in 1980 with a degree in psychology. She returned to school and received her doctorate degree in theology.

Adelfa served as a pastor in her own church for more than 30 years, plus opening the “New Life in Christ” Christian school in Rockdale, serving as owner and manager for over 15 years.

Adelfa was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, William E. Davis; five brothers: Placido III, Lawrence, Ferdinand, Timothy, and Wayne.

She is survived by sisters: Martha Elizabeth”Liz” (Melvin) Guidry, Phyllis “Phyll” (Jack) Green, and brother Albert “Buddy” (Hope) Galban; along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Arrangements are under the direction of Sabrina N. Young at Young’s Daughters Funeral Home & Bereavement Center.
