Don’t think of her as gone away, her journey has just begun, life holds so many facets, this earth is only one.

Carrie Lue (Sis) Richards Douglas answered the Master’s call on Aug. 26, 2020 at her home.

Carrie was the first daughter of seven to Rufus Jack Richards and Elma “Bill“ McDonald Richards on March 5, 1931, in Rockdale. She was named after both her grandmothers, Caroline and Lula, but was affectionately known as “Sis” to family and friends.

Her parents and brothers Rufus Ned, William Billy, Earnest and sister, Eunice, two daughters, Barbara and Janice and granddaughter, Angela preceded her in death.

She accepted Christ at an early age and united with New Hope Baptist Church. She spent most of her church life at New Hope except for five years where she united with New Hope Baptist Church in Fort Worth.

She began her education at Aycock Elementary School in Rockdale and graduating from Aycock High School in 1950. Her class consisted of four sets of siblings and seven first cousins.

She had a desire to be a nurse and attended Prairie View A&M University for one year.

She was a chef at Andy’s Café for 25 years. She was also a CNA for several home health facilities.

She leaves to cherish her memories her children, a daughter, Darlene Douglas, Austin; three sons, Ellis (Coleman) Douglas Jr., Kirk Douglas, Stanley (Aretha) Douglas, all of Rockdale; two stepchildren, Doris Brown and Donald Brown, Phoenix, Arizona; two sisters, Dorothie Lee Richards Barnett, Dallas, and Syl via Denman Morrison, Temple; an honorary brother, Oscar Richards, Houston; six grandchildren, Michael, Katheren, Ebony, Ivory, and Jarmonde; 20 step-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, Jaeda, Jordyn, Cameron, Carter, Shakira and Karsyn; and a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Rockdale with Rev. Kenneth Morris officiating. Interment will be at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Rockdale.

Active pallbearers will be Haywood Richards, Billy Tindle, Byron Williams, Malcolm Williams, Cornelius Williams, Geriod Williams, Cassius Moore and Harvey L. Burgess III.

Honorary pallbearers are Ellis Douglas Jr., Kirk Douglas, Stanley Douglas, Michael Douglas, Nathan Williams and Carl Douglas.
