SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA—Norman Earl Douglas Sr., beloved husband, father and friend, passed away in San Luis Obispo, California, on Apr il 24, 2023, at the age of 89.

Norman was born Jan. 30, 1934, in Heidenhe imer to Ennis Sr. (Buddy) and Inez Cliff Douglas.

He attended Aycock High School in Rockdale and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1958.

He accepted Christ at an early age, being baptized at Goodwill Baptist Church in Milano.

He married his devoted wife, Ola Joyce Bunton, in July of 1956. Joyce took exceptional care of him through sickness and in health, exhibiting undeniable love and devotion.

They had six beautiful children.

Norman settled his young family in Paso Robles, California, where he lived most of his adult life. He started there serving in the military at Camp Roberts.

He became a member of the Teamsters union, starting his career at PG&E as a construction foreman.

He then moved on to drive a cement mixer truck for both Pioneer Transit Mix and Kaiser Sand & Gravel, from which he retired after many years of service.

While employed, he played a key role in multiple building and construction projects throughout the central coast. One included the James Dean Historical Landmark on Hwy. 46 in Cholame, California.

Norman was also involved in planning and supporting the Teamsters barbecue held annually in Santa Maria, California.

He enjoyed fishing, traveling to his home state of Texas, and loved animals, including family pets Tasha, Ralph, Shana and Sassy.

Norman also enjoyed playing the guitar, attending annual family reunions and amusement parks, and dining at his favorite restaurant in Morro Bay, Bob’s Fish & Chips.

Norman is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Ola Joyce; his children, Charles, Debra, Greg (Leticia), Norman Jr. (Lisa) and Stephanie; and his grandchildren, Charly Ann, Michelle and Montgomery.

His surviving siblings are Catherine Griffin, Iopha Pierce, Emma Jewel Johnson (William), as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Norman was preceded in death by his parents, Ennis Sr. and Inez Douglas, and brothers Ellis Sr., Jimmy Lee, Ennis Jr., Billy Joe and Carl Wayne, Aunt Lula Cliff Cooper, and loving daughter Regina Lynn Douglas-Wade.

Norman spent his entire life loving Ola Joyce and all of his family and was considered one of the most upstanding men in his community. He will forever be loved, missed and dutifully cherished.
