Elizabeth Howard Mitchel

Elizabeth Howard Mitchel, 89, of Rockdale passed away on Mond ay, July 24, 2023, in Round Rock.

A memorial service will be held at Murray Street Church of Christ, 1301 Murray Ave., in Rockdale at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 5, with Minister David Hankins officiating.

Mrs. Mitchel She was born on Oct. 11, 1933, to Fred Erby Howard and Fay (Capps) Howard in Brady.

Mrs. Michel was active in cheerleading and tennis at Brady High School and graduated in 1952.

She met the love of her life, Buford P. Mitchel of Salt Tap, and they were married on May 30, 1953.

She was a devoted wife and mother, raising two children and still finding the time to work for the Scarborough Audit Department (Austin), the Montgomery Ward Catalog Store (Rockdale) and Winn’s Vanity Store (Rockdale).

Mrs. Mitchel was an American Cancer Society volunteer and a longtime member of the Murray Street Church of Christ.

She enjoyed fresh cantaloupe, traveling and playing dominos with friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Fay Howard; a brother, Bill Howard; a sister, Darlene (Howard) Elliot; and her husband, Buford Mitchel.

Survivors are her son, David P. Mitchel and wife Dr. Janene Mitchel of Rockdale; and a daughter, Cynthia Ann Mitchel of Elgin; also, nieces, nephews and many other family members and friends.

The family requests that memorials be made to Alzheimer Research or Cancer Research.
