Finis Edward Black

Finis Edward Black, 95, of Rockdale died Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2021, at Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Temple.

Services were Wednesday, Feb. 24, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale with Pastor Matt Higginbotham officiating. Burial was at I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rockdale.

Mr. Black was born Feb. 4, 1926, to Finis Roland and Frankie Elizabeth (Connell) Black.

Mr. Black was a U.S. Army veteran.

On Dec. 6, 1947, he married Lou Ann Grimes in Flynn. They lived in Dickerson until 1954, when they moved to Rockdale where Mr. Black began working at Alcoa as a welder, until his retirement after 36½ years.

He enjoyed being on the farm and ranch, going to his property in Leon County, and raising vegetables in his garden.

Mr. Black was a member of First Baptist Church in Rockdale.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lou Ann Black on Sept. 21, 2017; their sons, Wayne Black on Sept. 12, 2000, and James Black on Aug. 18, 1990; two granddaughters, Stacey and Tracey Black; his parents, Finis Roland and Frankie Elizabeth Black; two brothers, JC and David Black; and a sister, Mary Norrie.

Survivors are two daughters, Barbara Black of Rockdale and Judy McLerran of Granbury; five grandchildren, Tonya Henry and husband Scott of Kingman, Arizona, Wendy Jackson and husband Chester of Frisco, Kurt McLerran and wife Melissa of Fairfield, Kristi Galbraith and husband Brad of Granbury, Melissa Harris and husband James of Virginia; a brother, Allen Black of Brazoria; and two sisters, Velma Smith of Levelland, Ruby Jordan and husband Gerald of League City; also, eight great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
