Fischer

John Elbert Fischer, 83, of Rockdale died Thursday, March 19, 2020, at his home in Rockdale surrounded by his family.

He was born on March 1, 1937, to Harry Edward and Mr. Fischer Mary Louise (Elam) Fischer in Baytown.

Before graduating high school in 1956, he enlisted into the U.S. Naval Reserve in 1955.

On June 1, 1957, he married Peggy Jean Lawrence in the Tracy community. They lived in Austin and returned to Rockdale in 1966.

Mr. Fischer worked at Alcoa as a crane operator and millwright until he retired in 1996.

He was a member of First Christian Church in Rockdale.

He loved to go fishing and was always proud of his garden.

Mr. Fischer was always there for anyone that needed a helping hand.

He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and also his dog, Homer.

Mr. Fischer was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Mary Fischer; his wife, Peggy Fischer; a grandson, Ryan Debault; and a brother, Harry Edward Fischer Jr.

Survivors are his sons, Scott Fischer and wife Debbie, Russell Fischer and wife Romney, all of Rockdale; a daughter, Lisa Debault and husband Craig of Rockdale; his grandchildren, Lindsay Cleveland and husband Kenny, Meggie Bow and husband Kyle, Breili Fischer, Adam Fischer and wife Juli, Jon Debault and wife Hannah, Kelsey Fischer, Michael Fischer, Morgan Moore and husband Ford, and Brody Debault; his great-grandchildren, Jessa Cleveland, Janey Cleveland, Joely Cleveland, Johanna Cleveland, Destinee Bluford, Hendrix Fischer, Kallen Bow, Korbin Bow, Kyla Kate Bow and Quinn Moore; and a sister-in-law, Joyce Fischer.

Visitation was Sunday, March 22, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale.

A private family service was held Sunday, March 22, with burial in the Murray Cemetery near Rockdale.

Pallbearers were Adam Fischer, Jon Debault, Michael Fischer, Brody Debault, Kenny Cleveland and Kyle Bow.

Honorary pallbearers were Lloyd Anders, Boyd Taylor, Don Hall and Ford Moore.
