Garza

Gabriel “Gene” Garza, 61, of Rockdale died Monday, Feb. 3, 2020, at Parkview Regional Hospital in Mexia.

A funeral service was held Tuesday, Feb. 11, at Phillips & Luckey in Rockdale with Pastor Harvey Abke officiating. Burial was at Garza Cemetery following the service.

Mr. Garza was born Sept. 4, 1958, to Gabriel R. and Rosa Ruth (Leyendecker) Garza in Cameron.

On Nov. 11, 2011, he married Brenda Sue Minor at First Baptist Church in Milano.

Mr. Gaza first worked at Alcoa as a trainer, before becoming a truck driver at WS Industries for Joe Tovar and then for PCI.

He enjoyed being outside, the country life, fishing, animals (especially dogs and his donkey, Bobby), gardening, growing watermelons, reading, history, football and following the Houston Texans.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gabriel and Rosa Garza; a daughter, Heather Marie Garza; and a son, Hagen Eugene Garza.

Survivors are his wife, Brenda Sue Garza of Rock-dale; his children, Terry L. Garza, Emily F. Garza and husband Julian Gonzalez, all of Rockdale, Victoria E. Garza of Bastrop, Buck D. Garza of Cedar Park, Diana Juarez of Franklin, Joel Juarez of Fort Worth; a brother, Ernest Garza and wife Charlotte of Rockdale; his sisters, Melba Garza of Cedar Park, Irene Garza, Cathy Stracener and Martha Garza, all of Rockdale; his grandchildren, Phillip Gill, Hannah Nicole Rodriguez, Harper Brielle Rodriguez, Jayla Rose Gonzalez, Jaxon Anthony Gonzalez, Evelia Lorrai ne Garcia, and one on the way, Andie Jay.
