Cecilia Garza, 86, of San Antonio, formerly of Rockdale, died Saturday, Aug. 15, 2020, at her home in San Antonio.

Mass was held Monday, Aug. 24, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rockdale with burial in the Garza Cemetery near Rockdale.

Rosary was recited Sunday, Aug. 23, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale.

Miss Garza was born Feb. 1, 1934, in Rockdale to Anastacio and Guadalupe (Reyes) Garza.

She attended a segregated school in Bastrop when her father was stationed in Bastrop at Camp Swift. They returned to Rockdale where she graduated from Rockdale High School, Class of 1953.

Miss Garza moved to San Antonio in 1957, where she worked 30-plus years as a clerical worker with the civil service at Kelly Air Force Base.

She was a member of St. John’s Birchman Catholic Church in San Antonio. She was very involved in her church before and after she retired.

Miss Garza briefly taught CCD, was a communion minister and worked in the rectory after she retired.

She played in a volleyball league when she was younger and enjoyed going back to the farm in Rockdale.

Miss Garza was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers, Alfred, Juan, Manuel and Robert Garza.

Survivors are a son, Marcus Revilla of Dallas; a granddaughter, Gabriella Revilla Allison of Phoenix, Arizona; five brothers, Cruz Garza and wife Refugia, Arthur Garza and wife Sharon, and Ruben Garza, all of Rockdale, Jim Garza and wife Sharon of Mount Pleasant, Joseph Garza and wife Ruth of Austin; four sisters, Isabel Ortiz of Houston, Mary Helen Ortega of Rockdale, Josephine Garza of San Antonio, Angie Grafe and husband Stewart of Evergreen, Colorado; a sister-in-law, Pauline Garza of San Antonio; and a special friend and provider for six-plus years, Sylvia Guzman of San Antonio.

Pallbearers were Jacob Revilla, Robert Mendoza, Jeremiah Revilla, Emilio Vargas, Alex Mendoza and Anthony Mendoza.
