With his children at his side, Billy Joe Hall was called to his heavenly home on Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2020.

Services were held Sunday, Oct. 18, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale with Rev. Jack Gilliland and Rev. Mike Loftice officiating. Burial was at I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rockdale.

Mr. Hall was born Sept. 14, 1937, in Taylor to W.L. (Bill) Hall and Jo Ella Baker Hall.

He graduated from Rockdale High School in 1956, received his bachelor’s degree from Southwest Texas State College in 1960, and completed his master’s degree in agricultural education from Texas A&M University in 1968.

While at SWTSC in San Marcos, he met Ida Bess Robinson and they were married on Nov. 23, 1961 in Tuleta.

Mr. Hall’s dad, W.L. (Bill) Hall, gave up his seat on the RISD Board of Trustees so Billy could be hired as a teacher in 1961. He taught a year of junior high science before moving to high school as an ag teacher, where he would remain until his retirement in 1994.

Mr. Hall was a member of Meadowbrook Baptist Church, where he sang with Hall, Doug Crane, Barton Crane, Jason Hall, John Hall, Clint Vance, Shane Vance and Danny Morris.

Honorary pallbearers included Kenneth Foudray, Ollie Morris, Jim Vance, Larry Pipkin, Robert Moore, Walter Pond and James Birkhead.

Memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choosing. the Meadowlarks, and Milam County Cowboy Church, where he sang with the Silver Spurs.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Bess, who passed away in May 2017.

Survivors are a son and daughter-in-law, David and Starla Hall of Thorndale; a daughter and son-in-law, Shelley and Kenneth Foudray of Brazoria; his grandchildren, Allen Hall, Abby Foudray, Erin Loutfi and husband Fuad, Jessee Lopes and husband Matt; his siblings, Linda Crane, Hal Hall, Martha Vance and husband Jim, and Teresa Derickson; brother-in-law Ollie Morris, and Naomi Hall; also, three great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
