Johnell Harris, 81, died Monday, Dec. 16, 2019.

Funeral service is scheduled for 12-noon Saturday, Dec. 28, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale with Minister Hosea Atkinson officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Lawn Cemetery (aka Eastlawn Cemetery) in Rock-dale.

Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

He was born Oct. 3, 1938, in Sharp to Marshall and Thayola (Reed) Harris.

He was a graduate of Aycock High School, where he played football, basketball and baseball.

Mr. Harris loved all sports, especially basketball, which he actively played until he was in his 60s. He also played baseball for the Rockdale Clippers Baseball Club.

He and was a fan of the Houston Astros, Rockets and Texans, and he enjoyed sweets.

Mr. Harris lived and worked in Houston, at Ruth Berry for many years.

Later, he and his family moved to Rockdale, where he became a member of New Hope Baptist Church.

Mr. Harris was employed with Alcoa for 13 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents Marshall and Thayola (Reed) Harris; a brother Henry Harris; and two sisters Frankie D. Smith and Bertha Everage.

Survivors are his daughters, Felecia Wesley (Lawrence), Lanell Baker (Tony) and Melanie McBride (Charlie), all of Round Rock; his brothers Marshal Harris Jr. (Willie Gene) of Houston, Billy Ray Harris (Brenda) and Elmo Miller (Charlie Mae), all of Rockdale; his sisters, Cecil Marie Nelson (Clarence), Naydene Lindsey (Willie) and Faydene Esprit (Lawrence), all of Houston; an aunt, Maddie Pearl McBride (Emmitt) of Rockdale; his grandchildren, Kevin Wesley (Leilah), Charles Wesley, Demetrius Baker, Tre Anna McBride, Tommie Wesley, Freddie McBride and Aliyah McBride; and two great-grandchildren, Taylon Baker and Aria Wesley; also a host of other relatives and friends.
