Services for Martin Dean Hobbs, 84, of Thorndale were held Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2018, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rock-dale with Rev. Mark Porter-field officiating. Burial followed at Pleasant Retreat Cemetery.

Mr. Hobbs died Saturday, Nov. 17, at his home near Thorn-dale.

He was born Sept. 15, 1934, south of Thorndale to Jess and Olga (Schramm) Hobbs.

Mr. Hobbs was a graduate of Thorndale High School.

A longtime Thorndale resident, he also lived in Houston for 25 years and managed a White’s Store. After returning to Thorn-dale he became a rancher until he retired.

He married Wanda Shirley on May 29, 2003, in Cameron.

Mr. Hobbs was a member of Pleasant Retreat United Methodist Church, a veteran of the U.S. Army, served Milam County as Justice of the Peace in Precinct 4 for 14½ years, was a member of Houston Masonic Lodge and was a 32nd degree Mason.

Mr. Hobbs enjoyed gardening, riding around the farm in his Gator with his dog Missy and cat Morris, and fishing.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda Hobbs; a stepdaughter, Ellen Biehle; and his parents, Jess and Olga Hobbs.

Survivors are his wife, Wanda Hobbs of Thorndale; a son, Darrell Hobbs of Cameron and his two sons, Dustin and Sean Hobbs of San Antonio; a stepson, Jonathan Jones and wife Mary of Copeland and their two sons, Brandon and Austin Jones of Copeland; and a sister, Betty Caffey and husband Bobby of College Station.

Pallbearers were Jonathan Jones, Brandon Jones, Austin Jones, Kevin Lindig, Kenneth Biehle and Jack Brooks.

Honorary pallbearers were Kevin Biehle and Randy Caffey.
