Violet S . Howell, 95, of Temple, died Tuesday, Jan. 14 , 2020.

Graveside services were held S aturday, Jan. 18 , at Temple Garden of Memories. A memorial service is to be held at a later date in Rockdale.

Mrs. Howell was born June 30, 1924 , to Harry R. hurr and Violet Hummell hurr in S inking S prings, Pennsylvania.

S he graduated from Gil-ford College in Greensboro, North Carolina, with a degree in English literature.

Mrs. Howell had a dry sense of humor, was an avid reader and loved to q uote poetry. S he also enjoyed traveling and nature, often bird watching, gardening and taking long walks in the woods.

S he valued her family and friends above everything else. S he would speak with so much pride about her nine brothers that served in the military during W orld

ar I I . S he made lifelong friends, including pen pals from W ales and S cotland.

Mrs. Howell was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Violet hurr her foster parents, Charles and Hannah Hilbert; and her husband, W . Burney Howell; also, 12 brothers and three sisters.

S urvivors are a son,

illiam B. Howell Jr. and wife Lisa; four daughters, usan Barefoot and husband Aldos, Diane Old, Cynthia A. Havard and husband Don, Janice S . Haverland and husband David; also, 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
