Funeral services for Lewis Donald “Don” Hubert, 89, of Rockdale were held Saturday, Sept. 7, 2019, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale with Minister Gene Van Noord officiating. Burial followed at Minerva Cemetery.
Mr. Hubert died Wednesday, Sept. 4, at his home in Rockdale.
He was born May 8, 1930, in Minerva to Ralph and Jessie (Lewis) Hubert.
Mr. Hubert served in the U.S. Air Force for 20 years and retired as a master sergeant on Aug. 31, 1966. During his career, he lived in France from 1959 to 1964, Fairfield, California, from 1964 to 1967 and Oxnard, California from 1967 to 2002. He was a weapons specialist and a top secret nuclear weapons specialist, and because of that, he was not allowed to fly over certain countries.
After the Korean Conflict, he helped build orphanage homes in South Korea.
After his retirement, Mr. Hubert worked two years for the U.S. Air Force.
On July 31, 1952, he married Araminta Talboy in Oakland, California, and they lived in Rockdale the past 17 years.
Mr. Hubert was preceded in death by his wife, Araminta “Vi” Hubert on June 7, 2003; two daughters, Donna Lynn Mary Hubert and Denise Diana Austin; his parents, Ralph Hubert and Jessie Gore; three brothers, Hoyle D., Ralph Byron and Charles “Cotton” Hubert; and six sisters, Florene Fletcher, Ara Bell Hubert, Mae Agnes Van Meter, Bonnell Gjedde, Doris McCutcheon and Jessie Lou Neatherlin.
Surviving are his daughters, Barbara Darnell Jensen and husband Bruce of Santa Barbara, California, Sharyn Hubert of Rockdale; a son-in-law, Fred Austin of Yorba Linda, California; a brother, Jack Hubert and wife Lou of Bryan; a sister, Margaret Hubert Denman of Minerva; eight grandchildren, Brandi, Travis, Brian, Brad, Michelle, Tyler, Brittany and Cassidy; and five great-grandchildren, Annabelle, Mason, Savannah, Cade, Julia, Ethan and Meagan.
Pallbearers were Travis Austin, Tyler Austin, Paul Hubert, Steve Basonic, John Dickens, Michelle Hubert and Fred Austin.
