Montez Rhodes Jones died peacefully April 11, 2019, in her home of 67 years in Rockdale. She was surrounded by her children, caregivers, and had been visited by grandchildren and some great-grandchildren earlier in the week.

Graveside services for the family will be Thursda,y April 18, at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lampasas.

Mrs. Jones was born Oct. 22, 1922, in San Saba to George H. Rhodes and Sweet Ora Walker Rhodes. Her mother died when she was 5; she was raised in San Saba by her father and his second wife, Josephine “Josie” Gay Rhodes.

She graduated from San Saba Schools and Durham Business College in Austin.

She married Lt. James Vance Jones of Lampasas in Lubbock on Jan. 10, 1943. He preceded her in death.

After the end of World War II, they lived briefly in Lampasas, Burnet, and Marble Falls, moving to Rock-dale in 1952.

Mrs. Jones was a long-standing member of St. John’s United Methodist Church in Rockdale.

She was a Cub Scout den mother, was active in multiple Rockdale Bridge Clubs, and was an avid lifelong crossword puzzle player.

Mrs. Jones is survived by her three children, Jimmy Karl Jones and wife Tonia of Lampasas, Andrew E. Jones III and Kimberly Jones, both of Austin; seven grandchildren, Andrew E. Jones IV and wife Sarah of Nacogdoches, Jennifer Jones, Jonathan Ryan Jones, James Brandon Jones and wife Evan, all of Austin, Cyril Vance Jones and wife Lindsay of Houston, Edward McLean Jones of Dallas, Anthony James Jones of Georgetown; five great-grandchildren, McKenzie Grace Jones, Elena Reese Jones, Gentry Blue Jones and twins Reed Campbell Jones and Harris MacLean Jones; and her caregivers, Rosie Johnson, Mary Helen Ortega, Yolanda Rosas and Rosa Reyes.
