Katz

Funeral services for Tovia Katz, 89, were held Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2021, at St. John’s United Methodist Church in Rockdale, where he was a member. Dr. Gregory Nichols and Pastor John Warren officiated.

Visitation was earlier that morning at the church.

Burial is set 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 29, at Alexander Methodist Cemetery in Bryan.

Tovia was born June 29, 1932, in Tel Aviv, Israel, to Pinchas and Divsha Katz.

On Feb. 22, 1973, he and Jane Fisher were married in Bridgetown, Barbados. They moved to Rockdale in December 1977 and Tovia went to work at Alcoa, where he worked as an electrician in the maintenance department until his retirement in 1994.

He then began his second career as a computer technician, building and repairing personal computers for many people in the Rockdale area over the next 20-plus years.

Tovia was a lifelong learner whose many passions included gardening, raising animals, reading, travel, photography and ongoing improvements to the home he built for his family.

He was a tinkerer and never met anything that couldn’t be fixed with a little glue. (He had countless varieties on hand at any time!)

Tovia passed away Saturday afternoon, September 25, 2021 in the Legacy Nursing Home in Cameron.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Pinchas and Divsha Katz, and two sisters, Aksa Katz and Bruria Garfunkel.

Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Jane Katz of Rockdale; a son, Dror Katz and wife Sima of Be’er Sheva, Israel; three daughters, Iris Pe’er and husband Philip of Neve Ilan, Israel, Susan Katz and husband Al Giesler of Austin, and Judy Katz of Portland, Oregon; seven grandsons, Yoni Pe’er of Neve Ilan, Israel, Tal Pe’er of Hamburg, Germany, Ron Pe’er of Neve Ilan, Israel, Oren Katz of Be’er Sheva, Israel, Alon Katz of Be’er Sheva, Israel, Quinn Katz Unrein of Portland, Oregon, and Luca Katz Unrein of Portland, Oregon; three great-granddaughters, Calliope Shira Pe’er, Nanouk Yael Pe’er and Zohar Pe’er; and a sister, Cochva Kahana of Tel Aviv, Israel.

Pallbearers are Pat Fisher, Jack Fisher, Greg Woodard, Jason Henry, West Fisher, Trey Fisher, Keith Fisher and Doug Karr.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Michael J. Fox foundation for Parkinson’s research, www. michaeljfox.org/donate.
