Funeral Mass for Samuel “Sam” Masiel, 96, of Rock-dale was held Friday, April 12, 2019, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rockdale with Rev. Pedro Castillo and Deacon Gus Coelho officiating. Burial followed at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Rockdale.

Rosary was recited Thursday, April 11, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale.

Mr. Maisel died Wednesday, April 10, at his home in Rockdale.

Mr. Maisel was born Nov. 29, 1922 in Cameron, Texas to Pedro and Isabel (Castillo) Masiel. He has lived in Rockdale since 1940. On February 14, 1943, he and Basilisa Mireles were married in Rockdale. Sam worked for Commercial Construction Company at Alcoa in Rockdale. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Basilisa Masiel on April 23, 2005; his parents; three sisters, Matilda Solis, Dolores Hernandez and Vaselisa Tijerina; two brothers, Celestino Masiel and Luis Masiel; and three grandchildren, Kevin Zapata, Michael John Salazar and Delisa Masiel.

Survivors are four daughters, Mary H. Henry of Canada, Dolores Masiel of Rockdale, Lollie Zapata of Whitehouse, Yolanda Salazar of Hearne; four sons, Mario Masiel and Joseph A. Masiel, both of Round Rock, Sam Henry Masiel of Fairfield, Peter Masiel of Victoria; his grandchildren, Sam Henry Masiel Jr., Jeremiah Masiel, Alejandro M. Henry, Amanda Vasilisa Zapata Thompson, Katarina Amann, Denise Baqui, Aaron Zapata, Chase Anthony Masiel, Christopher Masiel, Jonathan Masiel, Reyniel Masiel, Anisa Masiel, Brittany Masiel, Angelica Masiel and Ryan Masiel; and his great-grandchildren, Manuel Zapata Thompson, Samuel Masiel, Alyssia Masiel, Joshua Masiel, Zandra Amann, Cadel Amann, Dania Henry, Kia Masiel, Peyton Masiel, Dylin Masiel, Jasper Henry and Brianna Baqui.

Pallbearers were Sam Henry Masiel Jr., Aaron Zapata, Jeremiah Masiel, Chase Anthony Masiel, Reyniel Masiel, Christopher James Masiel and Manuel Zapata Thompson.
