Carol McDaniel, 69, of Rockdale died Monday, Feb. 17, 2020, at her home in Rockdale.

Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale with Pastor Willie Phillips officiating. Burial will follow at I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rockdale.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, at the funeral home.

Mrs. McDaniel was born Sept. 6, 1950, in Cameron to Z. Thomas “Z.T.” and Mary Catherine (Green) Johnson.

She was the Texas QC Director for Food Stamps with Texas Health & Human Services for 35 years, retiring in 2009.

On Aug. 21, 1993, she married Ervin Ray McDaniel in Rockdale.

Mrs. McDaniel lived most of her life in Rockdale, where she was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church.

She enjoyed bird watching, working in her flower garden, traveling with her family and reading.

Mrs. McDaniel was preceded in death by her father, Z.T. Johnson; her first husband, John Pink Horton; her second husband, Ervin Ray McDaniel; two brothers, David Johnson and Curtis Johnson; and a sister, Cindy Sanders.

Survivors are a daughter, Melissa Garcia and Raymond McBride of Rockdale; her mother, Mary Catherine Hernandez of Cameron; four brothers, Calvin Johnson and wife Bobbie of Crockett, Darrel Johnson and wife Bonnie of Milano, Billy Johnson and wife Juanita of Taylor, Robert Johnson and wife Debbie of Kansas; three grandchildren, Alaina Garcia and husband J.R. Strelsky of Rockdale, Tara Garcia of College Station, Raymond McBride Jr. of Rockdale; and a great-grandson, Gregory Strelsky III of Rockdale.
