Florene Frosch McDaniel, 85, of Forest Grove community went to be with her Heavenly Father Saturday, Dec. 30, 2023.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 5, 2024, at Forest Grove Christian Church, with Pastor Lance Walch officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Grove Cemetery.

The family will receive visitors from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 4, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale.

Florene was born Sept. 26, 1938, in Lee County to Clarence and Lena Frosch.

She graduated from Lexington High School as valedictorian and The University of Texas, graduating with a BS in education.

Florene married the love of her life, William Thomas (Billy Tom) McDaniel, on Aug. 31, 1958. They had three wonderful children together.

She taught school in Rockdale, retiring after 23 years of service.

Florene was a member and treasurer of Forest Grove Christian Church, a founding member of The Milam County Genealogical Society, Delta Kappa Gamma and a 4-H Leader.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Tom McDaniel; parents; a sister, Dorothy Jean Moore; a brother- in-law, LTC James A. (Jim) McDaniel; a nephew, Brian Moerbe; and niece Juneva Marshall.

Survivors are her daughter, Jayne Rhodes and husband, Dane of Raymondville; sons Alan McDaniel MD of Indianola, Iowa, Chuck McDaniel and wife Sharon of Rockdale; sisters Vernell Kastner and husband Morris of McDade, Lela Barker of Red Rock; brother Charles Frosch and wife Carol of Bryan; a sister-in-law, Lea McDaniel of Fairfax, Virginia; grandchildren Sierra Rhodes, LCpl Wyatt Rhodes, Mallory McDaniel, Macy McDaniel, Kendall McDaniel, Lathan McDaniel and Claire Hixson.
